In these self portraits, I used elements of Nair boxes, which were a part of my girlhood, perpetuated Eurocentric beauty ideals, and echoed the iconography of advertisements from the 1960's. The gold thread embroidery became essential after this project once I admired its use to communicate the female experience, while it was once a traditionally practice involved in enforcing gender roles.
